The Ostowash unit is probably the most unique and innovative device ever invented and it will change the ostomy world completely! It eventually will be made available to ostomates anywhere they go, (hotels, hospitals, nursing homes). All they will have to do is bring their personal slate and they will be ready to go. The slate is the part of the unit that the bag attaches to and it is removable. It will give the ostomate dignity and cleanliness that up until now has not been possible. There are a few other systems on the market at the moment; however there is only one “Ostowash Toilet” That’s what it is, a toilet for ostomates, not just an ostomy cleaning device. For anyone who hasn’t had to use these bags before, what you have to do is drain the bag into the toilet by squeezing the feces out, then you have to wipe the end of the bag because of course it’s now messy and then put the clip on or buy disposable bags (not very realistic). It’s a preference thing as to what you wear. The beauty of this unit is that you can still keep using the bags you now have; it will be personalized to your preference!
What a difference it would have made in my recovery both mentally and physically to have been able to use it right away. Any medical staffs that has seen this machine is excited at the prospect of having it to work with and that is well on its way. It would give them also the cleanliness in dealing with patients.
